Resume Writing Workshop
We've hosted a number of job skills related sessions with Marjorie Hendrickson of Dutchess Works, all of which have been very well received by participants. We will be hosting yet another one on January 12 at 7:00 PM in the library annex. The focus of this particular workshop will be on resume writing.
Although resume writing guides have been around for decades now, there is still much confusion about which format will work best for different individuals. Job seekers (or potential job seekers) are encouraged to attend this free session with a professional job counselor to learn the ins and outs of resume writing, to have existing resumes critiqued and to determine which resume formats work best for which careers.
Mystery Book Club to Meet on Friday the 13th
What better day to discuss a good mystery than Friday the 13th. Our selection this month is Larry Beinart's "The Librarian" (which obviously caught my attention). If you are familiar with this title and would like to join the group, we will be meeting at 12:00 noon in the library annex.
Home Town Boy Makes Good (Music)
We are resuming the "Living Room Concert" series this month. Once again we will be hosting Hyde Park native Eric Garrison in concert. Eric, who has also been the organizer of this series, will be doing this concert as a benefit for the library. There has even been talk of special guests for this one. Keep an eye on this column and outside advertising for updates.
The concert is scheduled for January 21 at 8:00 PM in the library annex.
Volunteer Recognition Event Scheduled
In addition to our capable staff, the Hyde Park Library relies on the efforts of numerous volunteers in various ways. Most of our programming relies on the efforts of volunteer crews. Volunteers create the beautiful quilt that we auction off annually. We also rely on expert volunteer book repairers to mend damaged books and other materials. And we couldn't run our book sales without the help of the Friends of the Hyde Park Free Library and other volunteers.
For that reason, we will be hosting a "Volunteer Recognition Event" on Saturday, January 28 at 3:00 PM. The entire community is invited to attend this celebration of the efforts of our dedicated to the generous folks who give their time and lend their talents in support of the library.
Book Discussion Group News
Our selection for January's book discussion will be Salman Rushdie's celebrated (and controversial) "Satanic Verses." Our evening session will be held on January 23 at 7:00 PM and the afternoon group will meet on Friday, January 27 at 12:00 PM.
