Amy Fradon to Perform
Popular regional singer-songwriter Amy Fradon will perform at the Hyde Park Library Annex on Saturday, February 11 at 8:00 PM. Amy, of course, is well known in the area as one half of the duo Amy and Leslie, as well as her more recent solo work. Vocally, she has been described as a cross between Joan Baez and Aretha Franklin. She is also an accomplished songwriter and is considered by those who have seen her live as a consummate performer.
General admission is $10.00. Seniors and students pay $6.00. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made by calling 229-7791. Reserved seats should be claimed by 7:45 PM.
Amy will also be conducting a vocal workshop at 1:00 PM on the day of the performance. Those wishing to improve their singing technique--for whatever reason-- should benefit greatly from this session. The cost of the workshop is $45.00 and includes the price of admission to the evening concert.
Defensive Driving Course To Be Held
The Hyde Park Free Library will be hosting a Defensive Driving and Point Reduction Class on February 11 from 9:00 until 3:00. The facilitators will be representatives from
the Empire Safety Council. Cost of the class is $40.00. Participants should bring a bag lunch. For more information or to register for these sessions, please contact the Empire Safety Council at (845) 774-4465.
Photography Exhibit On Display
The Hyde Park Free Library will be exhibiting the works of regional photographer Justin Allen throughout February and March. The exhibit will be on display in the library annex during library business hours.
An artist's reception will be held on Saturday, February 4 in the library annex from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. The public is invited to attend and to meet Mr. Allen.
Presidents' Day Weekend Book Sale
We will be closed on Presidents Day, February 20, but we do have a great book sale planned for the two days prior. On Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19, the Friends of the Hyde Park Free Library will be running a book sale in the Library Annex during our regular business hours. Books, books on tape, videos and other popular items will be available for a very small contribution. Book lovers should mark their calendars.
Library Amnesty Weeks
We will be running a "food for fines" amnesty period from February 19 through March 12. Patrons with outstanding overdue items will be encouraged to return those items along with a donation of non-perishable foodstuffs for a regional food bank. This three-week amnesty is clearly a "win-win" for all concerned. Patrons with longstanding overdues will have their borrowing privileges restored, while doing a good deed for the community at large.
