Upcoming Events At Hyde Park Free Library

Library Festival

On Saturday, August Fifth the library will be hosting its 3rd annual Library Festival with a full roster of entertainment and events. Featured performers include: Kevin and Carol Becker with Rich Keyes at 10:00 AM; The Ivy Vine Puppet Theater at 11:00 AM; The City Winds Trio will offer a fun introduction to classical music at 12:00 PM; Storyteller and performer Eileen Stelljes will present a Revolutionary War reenactment at 1:00 PM. Daniel The Magician will appear at 2:00 PM; and comic magician Mr. Twisty will close out the day's events with a performance at 3:15 PM.

The Friends of the Hyde Park Library will be hosting a book sale concurrent with the festival. There will also be face painting, crafts, games and concessions. "Canine Reading Buddy" Munchkin on hand for children to visit and to read to.

Live Auction at the Library--August 19

Also in August, as we've mentioned in previous columns, we'll be holding a live auction on Saturday, August 19th, 7:00 PM--with a preview from 5-7 PM, Dom Navarra from Hyde Park Country Auctions will serve as auctioneer. Already we've amassed a wide array of antiques, artwork, collectibles, and gift certificates, all to be auctioned for the benefit of the Library. We would still welcome additional items at this time, especially collectibles, antiques and gift certificates. (We have been fortunate to receive a large number of pictorial works at this time.) Anyone wishing to donate items should call Marianne Grace at 845-229-2296 and drop them off at the Annex by August 8th. Receipts will be mailed for these tax-deductible donations. Please help support our local library! Questions may be referred to Patsy N. Costello, 2006 Fund Raising Chairman, at 845-229-2559. Photography Exhibit in the Annex

On August 20, from 3-5:30 p.m. there will be an opening reception at the Hyde Park Library Annex for an exhibit of photographs by Nancy Lazinsky and Lyn Burnstine. The reception will include a 4:00 reading featuring Lyn Burnstine and poet Mary Durham at 4:00 PM. Refreshments will be served.

Lyn, who many know from her days as a folk performer, just may do a few tunes as well--especially if she is able to coax members of her musical family to come along and lend a hand. The exhibit itself, which runs for six weeks, is entitled "A Second Look" and is a celebration of women developing and enjoying their talents in later life.

Trio to Appear In Concert

Well known area musicians Denise Jordan Finley, Daniel Pagdon and Matt Finley will perform at the Hyde Park Free Library on Aug 25 at 7:30 PM. General Admission is $10.00; Senior Rate (65 and over) will be $7.00. Denise, a former resident of Hyde Park, has played here before, but this will be a first for the full trio. It should be an exciting musical evening, and a nice blend of folk and jazz styles.

Prior to the concert, at 5:00 PM, Denise will be holding a special workshop on guitar tunings, also in the library annex. Fee for the workshop will be $25.00, which includes free admission to the evening concert.
