Upcoming Events At Hyde Park Free Library

Programming And Events:

We’ve had a couple of very successful events already in 2007. Our concert with singer-songwriter Tom Kimmel was easily one of most successful to date, with more than 40 people in attendance. We also had a very nice reception for photographer Andy Kilpatrick this past Sunday (1/13).

Andy’s exhibit has drawn a lot of positive comment from the community so far. His work will be on display here through February.

We will be hosting our annual Volunteer and Staff Recognition Party on January 27. (It looks like I mistakenly listed it as being on the 29th in the December report). The event will take place in the annex at 4:00 PM. Invitations have been sent, but of course, the event will be open to the general public as well.

As mentioned last month, we will be hosting classical guitarist Peter Fletcher here on February 2nd in concert one day prior to his Carnegie Hall debut. Unlike our folk series (which is designed to pay for itself), this concert will be free to the public. I am considering initiating a fundraising effort specifically for programming and would welcome some board input on this prospect. See his website at www.peterfletcher.com.

There will be two folk concerts in February. In the “Living Room Concert” series, we will be hosting acclaimed singer-songwriter Kate Campbell on February 10. Since Ms. Campbell is quite well known among lovers of the folk genre, it seems likely that this will also be a very successful concert. For more information, please check her website www.katecampbell.com.

Local singer-songwriter Helen Avakian will be joining us on February 24th. Both concerts will take place in the Annex at 8:00 PM. Check her website www.helenavakian.com.

Art Prints available for sale:

Available are art prints donated to the library by our friends at Hyde Park Paint and Glass, and a limited run of prints of an original artwork by Joyce Ghee. This remarkable work is an illustration of the library and annex buildings and has already garnered a good deal of favorable attention. Collectors and library supporters will almost certainly want a copy of their own.

We also have note cards on hand, which use Joyce's illustration as their design.
