Murder Mystery Dinner And Auction
The Library's Fundraising Committee is actively preparing for our fall fundraising event. This year's promises to be a fun-filled evening, a "murder mystery dinner" performed by a professional troupe of actors and intriguingly entitled "Murder In the Crystal Ball." It will be held in the Banquet Room of one of Hyde Park's favorite eateries, The Eveready Diner, beginning at 6:00 PM on September 15.
The evening's events will also include a silent auction. Donations for the auction are still being welcomed as of this writing, as is sponsorship for the event. All donors and sponsors will be recognized in the event's accompanying booklet. To take advantage of this opportunity to support the library.
The cost of the sit-down dinner and evening's entertainment is $50.00 per person. Reservations are limited to the first 100 people. Auction items are available for bidding from the start of cocktail hour (6:00 PM) until just after dessert.

Community Day
We encourage all town residents and visitors to stop by our information booth on Community Day to be held this year at Dinsmore Park in Staatsburg beginning at 1:00 PM. Traditionally, both of the libraries in the Town of Hyde Park (Hyde Park Free Library and the Staatsburg Library) have been on hand to hand out informational materials and, in our own case, to register new library users. We look forward to doing the same this year. September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, so getting the word out on library services would seem to be very appropriate.
Library Election
The annual vote to elect board members will be held at the library on September 13. from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This year's candidates are both currently active board members. Ruth Hurd is running for her second term on the board. She is an Educational Consultant and the recently retired Director of Career and Technical Education for Dutchess BOCES. She is currently serving as Board Treasurer and has been active on several library committees, including Planning, Personnel and Finance.
She is a member of the School Administrators Association of New York State and the Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators.
Richard J. Taylan is seeking a third term on the Library Board. He has been active on our Public Relations, Technology and Grants Committees. He is also the liaison to our Friends of the Hyde Park Library group. As chair of the grants committee, he has been instrumental in the library's receiving numerous grants. A retired teacher in FDR High School's Science Department, Richard has been continuing in the education field as an adjunct instructor at SUNY New Paltz and Marist College and has served as a policy board member for the Mid-Hudson Teacher Center.
