Upcoming Events At Hyde Park Free Library

Ritter and Petito to Perform: Local favorites Leslie Ritter and Scott Petito return to the Hyde Park Library Annex as part of our "Living Room Concert Series" on Saturday, November 10 at 8:00 PM. We're very excited to welcome back this talented duo whose first appearance here in 2005 was to a full house.

Leslie is a gifted vocalist who first achieved regional and national attention for her work in the duo Amy and Leslie (with Amy Fradon) and has continued to garner critical praise for her subsequent work with Scott, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer.

General admission to the concert is $10.00. Student and senior rate is $6.00. (If you're a student who happens to be a senior--well, it's still $6.00).

Vocal Workshop: From 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, November 10, Leslie Ritter will also be running a vocal workshop here at the Library Annex.Ý Leslie's conviction is that given proper training and encouragement, anyone can "find his or her voice". If you sing in the shower--or sing professionally, for that matter, you stand to gain from this experience. The fee for the workshop is $45.00, which includes free admission to the evening concert featuring Ritter and Petito.

Artist Reception: Our November-December exhibit will feature the sculpture of local artist Carl Grieco, along with several pieces by painter Tatiana Rhinevault. We will be hosting an artists' reception on November 9 at 5:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Foreign Film Series: Also on the evening of November 9, we will be running our latest entry in our Fall Foreign Film Series. This week's selection is Jean Renoir's classic "Rules of the Game." Considered by many critics as one of the great films of the 20th century, "La Regle du Jeu" is a sly and subtle critique of the French upper class between the wars. It will show at 7:30 PM in the Library Annex. Admission is free. We will also be showing Francois Truffaut's classic "Stolen Kisses" as our follow up November entry in the series. This film may be of special interest to those who attended our earlier screening of "The 400 Blow," as it is another in Truffaut's celebrated Antoine Doinel series. That film will run on November 30th, also at 7:30 PM.

Medicare Part B Counseling: The Office of the Aging will be offering individual counseling sessions on Medicare Part B on Thursday afternoons in November and December. The sessions are by appointment only. Those interested should call the Dutchess County Office of the Aging at 486-2555.

Defensive Driving Class: A two-session Defensive Driving class will be held in the library Annex on November 14 and 15 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Students must attend both sessions to receive full credit. To register, call 774-4455 or go online to www.digitaldefensivedriving.com.

Quilt Winner: Our congratulations go out to the winner of this year's quilt raffle, Christene McGann of Staatsburg. We were delighted that Christene and family could rush down to the drawing and reception upon learning that Christene's name had been drawn. Since her children were just wrapping up a Halloween party, the family was in costume. Pictures of this year's gorgeous quilt, the reception and the lucky winners' are on our website at www.hydeparklibrary.org.

And once again, a big thanks to the Hyde Park Library Craft Guild for their hard work, dedication--and their remarkable skill. Each year's quilt seems better than the previous one.
