Upcoming Events At Hyde Park Free Library

Just a reminder that tomorrow, Dec. 9, at 2:00 PM, we will be hosting Kevin and Carol Becker--along with Rich Keyes--for a free holiday concert. The Beckers always put on a wonderful show, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate the holiday season than with a performance by these local favorites.

On Tuesday, we will be having an Open House in the Library Annex from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Stop by for a cup of coffee and a goodie (or two--hey, it's the holidays!).

Next Friday, Mrs. B. will be running a special afternoon program for children in grades 2 and up. Her "Gingerbread House" program has been held before and is always a "treat" this time of year.

Book club members should note that ballots for '08 are due this month--and also that because of the Christmas holiday, the dates have been altered a bit for this month's discussion on Maeve Binchy's popular Tara Road. The Friday group will meet at noon next Friday, Dec. 14. The Monday evening discussion will be on Dec. 17 at 7:00 PM.

Also next weekend, on Sat. December 15 from 10:00-4:00, the folks at Digital Defensive Driving will be running a defensive driving and point reduction class. To register, call 774-4465 or visit www.digitaldefensivedriving.com. Course fee is $50.00.

Some non-library events that might be of interest. The Friends of Fiddlers Green, whose concerts have been a mainstay of Hyde Park musical life for as long I've been here, are holding their annual fund raiser on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 PM in the community room of the Methodist Church. Many of the regions favorite musical acts will be taking part--and you never know what local librarian might just be horning in on their acts.

(Actually, I am honored to have been asked to take part in this event, and will be singing a tune that I've done earlier with the Rhinebeck Choral Club).

Which reminds me, too, that the Rhinebeck Choral Club's annual holiday concert will be taking place next weekend as well. On Sat. Dec. 15, we'll be at the Rhinebeck Baptist Church (on Astor Drive)at 8:00 PM, and on Sunday, Dec. 16, we'll be at St. Andrew's Episcopal (110 Overlook Rd.) at 3:00 PM.

If you'd care for a little foretaste of the RCC concert, check us our on Joe Daily's morning show on LiteFM at 92.1 on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 8:00 to 8:30.
