Tom Kimmel in Concert: Nashville based singer-songwriter, Tom Kimmel, whose previous performance here at the Hyde Park Library garnered him a number of new local fans will be appearing here once again in concert on January 12 at 8:00 PM. Tom has recorded several albums himself and his songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, Joe Cocker and the Spinners.
His compositions have also been featured in numerous films and television productions, including "Runaway Bride," "Touched by an Angel," and even "Captain Kangaroo."
Tom is also a poet and storyteller and has just recently released an audio book of his poetry entitled "The Sweetest and the Meanest." His music CDs have featured collaborations with artists such as Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris.

Songwriting Workshop: Tom Kimmel will also be facilitating a songwriting workshop on the afternoon of the 12th. The program will run from 1:00 until 4:00 PM and is open to aspiring songwriters of all levels. The fee for this separate workshop is $45.00, which includes admission to the evening concert as well.
Foreign Film Series to Resume: We took a break from our Foreign Film Series for the month of December, but now that January is upon us,Ýwe are back at full throttle. We will be switching to Sunday afternoon showings for the winter months. Our first film for the New Year will be Francois Truffaut's "Stolen Kisses,"Ýwhich will be shown January 13th at 2:30 PM. This film is part of the acclaimed "Antoine Doinel" series, of which we have already screened the classic "400 Blows."
The following Sunday (January 20), we will be showing the Fellini classic "Amarcord." This acclaimed entry in the Fellini oeuvre is considered to be his most autobiographical film and remains a colorful and lively evocation of pre-war life in rural Italy.
News From the Children's Room: We're taking a mid-winter break from our regularly scheduled story hours. They will resumeÝon Tuesday, January 22nd. Our Teen Book Club will meet on Thursday, January at 6:30 PM. And our After-School Book club (for Grades 3-5) is scheduled for Thursday, January 24th at 4:00PM.
Other Book Club News: Our Mystery Book club will meet on Friday, Jan 11 at noon. This month's selection is "The Last Kashmiri Rose" by Barbara Cleverly. Our General Interest Book Club meets on Monday, January 14 at 7:00 PM, with an afternoon session to follow on Friday January 18 at noon. This month's selection is "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" by Betty Smith.
More Music News: We have a song-circle scheduled for Sunday, January 27th at 2:00 PM. Anyone who performs on any level is welcome to participate and share in this event. Singers, songwriters and instrumentalists are welcome to participate--as are storytellers, poets andÝpeople who simply would like to share a favorite short written work. And if you just want to listen, that's fine too.
Writers Group to Meet Twice In January: After a brief break, we are back on schedule with our Writers' Group. We will be meeting on January 14th and on January 28th at 6:30 PM. All aspiring writers in any genre are welcome to attend.
