Kate Campbell To Appear: Celebrated singer-songwriter Kate Campbell will appear in concert at the Library Annex on February 9th at 8:00 PM. Kate performed here last winter to a packed houses-- to great acclaim. Kate's beautifully crafted and literate songs have led to comparisons with great Southern literary figures such as Eudora Welty and Flannery O'Connor. Her musical roots extend beyond the folk idiom, with a gospel influence very evident in her phrasing and sense of dynamics.
Kate has been called "a major talent" by "Timeout Magazine" in a review that compared her to Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris. She has twice been nominated for Nashville Music Awards ("Folk Album of the Year") and has worked with Guy Clark, Maura O'Connell, Buddy Miller and Nanci Griffiths.
General admission to the concert is $10.00 with a senior rate of $6.00. Doors will open at 7:20 and reservations will be held until 7:50 (10 minutes before show time).
In addition to the evening concert, Kate Campbell will be offering a Songwriters' Workshop earlier in the day (from 1:00 to 4:00 PM). The emphasis of the workshop will be on "song fixin" (i.e. reworking songs to make them the best they can be). Workshop fee is $45.00, which includes admission to the evening concert.
