June promises to be a busy month at the Hyde Park Library. We continue with our film series, a new summer concert series, book club meetings and our regular story hours and other children's events.
Music Galore: Our "Living Room Concert Series," which features national touring acts, came to an official end in May. However, we continue to run musical events in the summer, featuring some of the best regional talent around, as well as some national--and even international acts that were not available for the fall-spring season.
Three-of-Hearts In Concert: Our first summer concert on June 7 (at 8:00 PM) will feature our very own Kathy Moran (who as a volunteer, is one of the lynchpins of our concert series) performing with her musical colleagues, Bob Barlow and Tim Ryan. You may have caught this trio here last year when they appeared under the name "Kathy Moran and Friends." They are now billing themselves as Three of Hearts, which is certainly an fitting name, since as those who have caught them in performance before already know, they have plenty of heart indeed.
Helen Avakian: Local favorite Helen Avakian will also be performing here at the library on June 21. This event is a CD release celebration, as Helen's latest release is scheduled for this month. We are honored that this talented performer has chosen our site to celebrate the release of her latest work. Concert time is 8:00 PM.
Rick Udler to Return: Another favorite in the region--although certainly not a "regional artist"--Brazilian guitarist Rich Udler will appear in concert on June 28th at 8:00 PM. Rick has appeared here twice before, to extremely enthusiastic response.
For any and all concerts, reservations are recommended. Please call 229-7791 to reserve a seat for any of these musical events. Suggested concert donations are $10.00 general admissions.
Film Series: We will be hosting three films in our Book-to-Film series this month. These Friday evening events have proven to be very popular and this month's calendar features some exciting entries.
On June 6th, we will be screening "The Girl With The Pearl Earring" featuring Scarlett Johannsen. On the 20th of this month, our selection will be " Cold Mountain " starring Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger, and on June 27th, we will show "House of Sand and Fog" with Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. All screenings are at 7:30 PM and are free and open to the public.
Book Club Meetings: Our Mystery Club will meet on June 13th at 12:00 noon to discuss Amanda Cross's novel "The Edge of Doom." Our general interest book club meets on June 23rd at 7:00 PM and June 27th at 12:00 PM and will be discussing Julia Glass's much-honored novel "Three Junes." New members are always welcome. Those needing a copy of the book under discussion should contact the circulation desk at 229-7791 ext. 200.
For the younger set, our Teen Book Club meets on June 19th at 6:00 PM and the "After School Book Club" will meet on June 26th at 4:00 PM.
Friends of the Library Book Sale: Our Friends group will be running a book sale for Flag Day/Fathers' Day weekend. The sale will be held in the Library Annex during library business hours each day (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday and 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sunday). The selection looks great this year. Stop by and take advantage of the bargains. While you're at it, check out the selection in our regular "book shop" The Book Nook.
Summer Reading Program News: Mrs. B. is planning an eventful Summer Reading Program this year and we hope that students throughout the Town will take advantage of this opportunity to keep up their reading skills over the summer months.
Our Kick-Off celebration is scheduled for Monday, June 30th and will feature popular regional storyteller Lorraine Hartin-Gelardi.
