Upcoming Events At Hyde Park Free Library

Art Exhibit and Reception: The library's current exhibit features the work of Newburgh born artist Judy Reynolds. Her work consists primarily of plein-air paintings in the tradition of the 19th century Hudson Valley School. The exhibit will be on display in the Hyde Park Library Annex from July 1 to August 31. On Sunday, July 13th at 2:00 PM, the Hyde Park Library will host a reception for Ms. Reynolds. All are invited to attend.

John Martucci and LuAnne Thompson In Concert: Regional singer-songwriters LuAnne Thompson and John Martucci will perform at the Hyde Park Library Annex on Saturday July 12 at 8:00 PM. The pair has recorded with singer Melissa Holland and with her released the remarkable CD "Holland, Thompson and Tooch" in 2006. LuAnne's country roots are complemented well by John's warm contemporary folk style. The pair have earned a considerable following in the Mid-Hudson area and their first appearance here as a duo is eagerly anticipated. General admission is $10.00. Senior rate is $5.00.

Fundraiser Musical Gala: The library will be hosting a musical fundraiser on July 26th at 7:30 PM. Featured performers include: Vito Petrocitto, Kevin and Carol Becker, Martucci and Thompson, Eric Garrison, Kathy Moran, Lyn Burnstine, Jane March and many more. Recommended minimum donation: $15.00.

Book To Film Series: On July 11th at 7:30 PM, The Hyde Park Library Annex will be screening the classic film "The Good Earth" starring Luise Rainer and Paul Muni. Admission is free and open to the public. A brief discussion of the film and the classic novel on which it is based will follow.

On July 18th at 7:30 PM, also as part of the Book To Film Series, we'll be showing "A Beautiful Mind" featuring Academy Award winners Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly. Discussion will follow with special focus on some of the controversial changes the filmmakers made in their treatment of this true story.

A third entry in the series for July will be Stanley Rubric's "Lolita," which will be shown on July 25th at 7:30 also in the Library Annex. This entry in the series should be of special interest to members of the HPFL Book Discussion Group, as the book is the subject of our July discussion.

Hyde Park Library Writers Group meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 6:30 PM. Writers in all genres are welcome to participate.

Hyde Park Library Book Discussion Group: The library's Our general interest book club meets on July 21st at 7:00 PM and July 25th at 12:00 PM and will be discussing Vladimir Nabokov's classic "Lolita."
